Have you heard the latest buzz? The greatest advancements in technology are expected to be in the mobile space. Numbers don't lie - with over 1.5 billion mobile phones in the world today, almost three times the number of PCs, you can see how the marketspace for web technologies is enticing. Mehrak Hamzeh, 29, Founder and CTO of GlobalTel Media (GTM) observed this early on and decided to act on his knowledge and intuition by forming his company. Mehrak and his team have created a reliable two-way communications methodology that bridges any two people in the world together. More impressively, GTM aims to level the playing field for content providers and others so that smaller companies can compete or bypass the large leaders like AOL and Yahoo. Only three years old, GTM has a successful clientele track record – only turned down by one out of the 100 companies that learned of its services and capabilities. Learn more about Mehrak and GlobalTel Media as we feature him in this week's Young & Professional Profile .

About the company

Globaltel Media, Inc. (GTM) is a technology-enabling software firm whose mission is to enable media delivery from the Internet to and from everyday cell phones, anytime, anywhere. GTM will level the playing field for brands, content providers, enterprises, advertising agencies, and online social communities to compete or bypass large aggregators such as AOL, MSN, Yahoo, and Netscape. By offering companies the ability to instantly communicate with their customers and allowing their customers to communicate with each other, GTM provides the tools clients need to enrich their relationship with constituents and build dedicated communities.

GTM believes in maximizing the information, advertising and marketing reach to wireless users worldwide by first launching a reliable two-way communications strategy. In short, the initial launch means simple two-way text messaging (i.e. Short Message Service (SMS)) between any web-application to any cell phone, anywhere and anytime and back again. In addition to text solutions, GTM offers more advanced, two-way delivery of content (i.e. images, music and video) through WAP, URL and MMS technologies. GTM also offers “me too” products, allowing clients to control the pricing and sales of content via Storefronts, extend reach through wireless “voting” via key words, and several others. Very unique to GTM is that our portfolio of solutions are offered without software licenses, without the need for GTM to brand, and at pricing plans that are simple and incentive-based.

What's the niche?

Enabling two way communication from web to wireless and back!

What does this mean? It means we make everything interactive. Text messaging is all about interaction and if you can provide a solution that enables everyday cell phones and everyday people to interact with their communities through brands' websites, personal blogs or even as simple as your yahoo email account gives us something very compelling to offer cell phone, online users and people who use email. There are no software downloads required for web users, email users or the cell phones, which makes it even better.

We really look forward to bridging communications from the Middle East to the United States. Imagine this – this is real and available from Vivatext.com. Your mom lives in Iran and you are a student in America. Your mom can email you, but you have to be at your computer to get her email. As a student these days, you are very mobile, so your mom uses her calling card to call your cellphone. It is very expensive for her. If your mom knew she could communicate to your cellphone right from her email account for free she would be very happy to save money. So your mom now can go to her Yahoo email, create an email. Type in your cellphone number @vivatext.com so it looks like this in the To: line of the email: "8585556163@vivatext.com," she enters in the body of the message and hits send like a regular email. Now, you – being the poor college student who can't afford a blackberry to receive email – would receive a standard text message on my cellphone from mom. Then, you would hit reply and text my mom back who then receives the reply back in her yahoo email account back in Iran and we're chatting from Iran to US then back to Iran!

What's awesome is that your mom just talked to you for free from her Yahoo email in Iran onto your cellphone in America. You were able to reply on your cell phone back to your mom in Iran right from your cell phone with no software download or anything; just a simple text message reply. You don't even need a blackberry or expensive data plan. Now remember: standard text messaging rates apply to the cellphone user, but that's normal these days. Every kid and student pays for text messaging anyway.

What's the biggest challenge?

Bandwidth to get the word out to enterprises. Once people see it, it's on. We've been in front of over 100 companies and have only been turned away once. We will need more sales engineers and business development to open doors so GTM becomes the de facto standard for two way wireless communications.

What's in store for the future?

The future of wireless is really in the hands of every kid walking the street. You can see them today, texting while they walk, talk, eat, or even sleep. Kids are so good, they don't even look at their cell phones anymore when texting. As the teenagers of today grow up and become the workforce of tomorrow you will see text messaging become a bigger part of everyone's day to day activities, leisure and business.

GTM's technology solutions, in particular two-way chat technologies like Vivatext.com will increase text messaging usage globally, bridging overseas families closer to their kids here in the United States using basic email to reach their kids' cell phones for free. It is like a free International to United States calling card available right from your mom's yahoo email account. The best thing is she doesn't need to download anything either on her pc, she just needs to know Vivatext!

Best way to keep a competitive edge

Read and never stop dreaming.

Guiding principle in life

  • Be humble, patient, accept humility.
  • Be passionate about what you believe, don't follow just because.
  • Everything will always work out and know that it's not your hands; there's someone above making all this happen. You're just the messenger!

Yardstick of success

When there's two minutes left and you're at the one yard line of your side of the field, down by seven in the fourth quarter – remember what it took to get you there and everything you gave up to breathe that moment. Suck it up, dig down and take what drives your every little heart beat and make it happen. Its that simple. Go big or go home, that's my motto. I live by it. Play every day like it's all on the line becuase if you don't, you'll always be left wondering.

Best practical advice

Don't let anyone take the meat off your table!

Supportive words from a family member or friend

Be patient.

Mentors

Carlos Lau becuase he believed when no one else did and has been like a father to me. He has taught me tact, stealth and being a farmer not a hunter.

Eddie Rodriquez because he believed when no one did and brought me in under his wings. He has taught me bridging connections, strategy and positioning.

Robert Sanchez because his fatherly love and brotherly friendship look out for my best interest and teaches me when sharks are close.

Mehrzad Hamzeh (my father) because he taught me patience and humbleness.

All four of the above are successful self-made businessmen. They have been selfless, patient and understanding to a wild guy like me who has never been been trained by a professional organization. I've never met a group of gentlemen who truely care about my success and not want anything in return except for the satisfaction that they guided me.

What motivated you to get started?

My mom and sister.

Like best about what you do?

Talking about the future of wireless and telling the world how its going to go down. Being a dreamer!

Like least about what you do?

I love everything I do. Wait, I don't like producing deliverables! Lets be honest here. Part of being a dreamer is just that, being the guy who comes up with the dream. Nobody really likes to work right?

At age 10, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A millionaire.

What was your first job?

Gardener

Biggest pastime outside of work

Playing football

Person most interested in meeting

George Bush: because he's so selfish and doesn't care about anyone but his own family and I am just curious why he does that. I mean, he's a good leader considering he started all this and needs to manage it. But for Christ's sake, take it easy on the oil prices. We know he bought every Americans vote with a $300 refund and he owns part of every major oil company if not his own. I just want to ask him how he sleeps at night knowing that gas costs the same as it did in 1970 as it does today and how he can drive prices up like that. Thank God I know how to make money, so I don't sweat it, but I just feel bad for all the Americans who don't and are getting hammered by it.

Leader in business most interested in meeting

The Shah of Iran: because his views on business and democracy were based on the way we live here in America. I wonder what would have happened if the US didn't topple the Shah and put the Ayatollah in power to suppress such a rich and powerful country. I guess that's why my family is here because the US is the #1 super power and will remain that way. I still think Iran and US should have been doing business since the 1970's. I feel bad, even though I would vote for McCain, I guarantee you the US will attack Iran just like when Bush went after Iraq. I called it. I am calling this one too. I wish someone else was running for president because I almost don't want to vote at this point. I'll make a decision though when it is time.

Three interesting facts about yourself

  1. Selfless
  2. Enjoys partying
  3. Can be boring

Three characteristics that describe you

  1. Don't listen
  2. Don't follow
  3. Go against all odds

Three greatest passions

  1. Football
  2. Snowboarding
  3. Collecting $2 bills and foreign money

Favorite book

"Of Mice and Men" by Steinbeck. I think it's the only I finished.

Favorite cause

St. Jude's Hospital

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

Failure is the closest thing to success and I can't tell you how many times I've failed to get where I am. My only advice is don't be scared, take a chance in yourself otherwise you'll never know if you really had it in you. Lose everything and appreciate the smallest things if you want to really be rich once you have it all!
